Coastal Serenity: Hartland
Nestled in the heart of the Garden Route, the Hartenbos Hartland Home project is a masterclass in understated coastal elegance. This interior design journey transformed a new four-bedroom, three-bathroom holiday residence into a sanctuary defined by tranquillity, light, and the raw beauty of the South African shoreline.
The core of this project was to create a "breath of fresh air" for its inhabitants. The aesthetic is deeply rooted in its location, with a natural colour scheme drawn directly from the surrounding landscape. We moved away from traditional nautical cliches to embrace the authentic textures of the coast.
The interior palette is a tribute to the outdoors. We focused on the soft blues of the ocean and the pale, silvery greens of the local fynbos, creating a seamless transition between the garden and the living areas.
Designed as the heartbeat of the home, the open-plan spaces prioritize flow and connection. Expansive windows invite the coastal light to play off organic textures, while the minimalist furniture layout ensures a sense of unhurried calm.
Each of the four bedrooms serves as a restful retreat. We utilized layered linens and tonal fynbos-inspired shades to ensure that the transition from the beach to the bedroom is soothing.

The three bathrooms were designed with a spa-like ethos, featuring clean lines and natural finishes that provide a crisp, refreshing start to every holiday morning.
By grounding the design in the muted tones of the environment—rather than competing with them—the home feels both sophisticated and deeply connected to the Earth. The result is a space where the family can truly "unplug" and live in harmony with the rhythm of the Garden Route.
